Every single person wants to make the best decisions he or she can. And if you’re a believer in Christ, then you don’t have to make those decisions alone. But how does God lead us in life’s big decisions?

Perhaps you recall the wonderful story in Acts, when the Lord told Philip to leave Jerusalem and go south to the desert road. As he followed the Lord’s command, he came across a chariot carrying an Ethiopian eunuch who looked puzzled:

“And the Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go over and join this chariot.’ So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.” (Acts 8:29-31)

So one way God leads you is by speaking through an inner voice… just as He spoke to Philip. This kind of direction isn’t a gut feeling or intuition. This is the work and the witness of the Spirit of God in your life.

We see this ministry of the Spirit clearly described in Romans 8:14,

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

So, if you’re a child of God, the Spirit is leading you!

When you read in John 14:26 how Jesus promised the disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit as our “Helper,” that word in the original Greek manuscript is paraklete.

This special word describes the Spirit as “one who is called alongside.” So the Spirit is walking with you, leading you into God’s plans for your life, and guiding you through the important choices you need to make every day.

Do you long to have God’s counsel and guidance in your life? Pray right now and ask Him. Then listen for His voice and watch for His direction.

The Holy Spirit is at your side right now, waiting to help you!
